There are many different types of methods of contraception that can be used to prevent pregnancy. You have choices based on your lifestyle, health, age, and sexual activity. While most options are reversible, there are some that are permanent.


Oral Contraceptives

Also knows as birth control pills, this is a great option for women who want to one day have children. It can also help with menstrual issues.


Topical Patches

A small patch placed on your skin once a week for 3 weeks.


Vaginal Device: NuvaRing

Birth control rings are inserted into the vagina so they can release hormones that prevent ovulation.


Implantable Devices: Nexplanon

A small rod that is placed under the skin in your arm. It releases hormone progesterone into your bloodstream to prevent pregnancy. It usually lasts for 3 years.


Intrauterine Devices: Mirena, Paragard

Recommended for women who want a long-term birth control option. It is placed inside the uterus and avoids fertilization.


Injectables: Depo Provera

Birth control injectables are when hormones are injected to prevent pregnancy. It last about 3 months.


Surgical Option: Tubal Ligation 

Commonly know as getting one's tubes tied, is a permanent birth control option for women who no longer want children. It involves a surgical procedure that closes the Fallopian tubes.
